Artist: Justin Mellon

-strong sence of impresionisom

-vivid contours

-styalisyic approach

Justin has been in my art class this entire year and I have come to a great understanding as to how he works, and into his process, Mr. Miller has spoken at length to him about sketching out his compositions before getting to work on them, however, even though the pieces do not come together holistically, they do, when you step back and examine them, have a spirit to them that not only warps your perception on just what is going through his mind at the time, but also the fact that the pieces totally make sence.

Artist: Anna Garforth

-astounding resoursfullness

-amazing presentation

-wonderfull message

following an informal discousion in class a day or so ago, i was turned onto ‘natural’ or ‘moss’ graffiti, as i was serching it up i came across Anna’s work, and i must say i am quite intreuged by it, she uses moss, stencils and poetry to convey her message, it is a real interesting practise and it is just fun ot apply somthing as respectable as horticultural practises, to the unpopular practise of Graffiti.

-interesting views on modern art

-humorious production

-’I cant drink from all these cups-ART’

only a few days ago one of this guys videos same up ad we had some good conversation about it. he was quite entertaining to say the least, he adopted the persona of a young man attempting to explain the value, and interpritation of modern art, and going so far as to discrive what makes art, art.

Artist: Verious Unnamed Artists…

-iteresting versitility

-(some) elegant design and craftmanship

As I have been doing some research on pre-industreal age weapons and armor, I happend to find this by mistake, this one page has a heap of images, of ‘industreal revolution’ inspired weapons, some are more convincing than others, and some are quite obviously supersoakers that somebody decided would look good painted, but some are quite beliveable.

Now in relation to the project I am working on now, these images are in no way usefull, however I am verry much intrigued by this idea

Artist: Derik Badman

-good realisom

-striking symbolisom

-good use of croping

Seeking for some good, still-life related artwork, I stumbled on the work of Local artist Derik Badman, he came to our class a number of months ago as we were studying the ary of comics. now as we have been studying a still life, I have been eager to see some stellar work, from objects I dont see regularly (at least not what I see regularly) and I do believe i have found it!

Artists: UArts, Class of 2005

-wicked cool Animation

-creative camera, and film work

As I have been surfing through Collage animation films, I stumbled onto one particular set of films, one in particular cought my eye, the collection as a whole, felt like an amaturatic version of an impressionistic film from Disney’s Fantasia. The students seemed to shoot onfilm, and then ‘scratch’ away verious parts of the frame, at one point some guys eyes were out!

This film gave me some interesting questions to ask myself about what i would like to animate over the next few years, to be honist it would be fun tomake a film like this.

Artist(s): Unknown

Un-intended artwork has always had a habit of fascinating me, i realize that in general that is mostly what i tend to respond to and this entry is not Anny different. I was browsing through a chain-mail photo series of ‘sidewalk illusions’, and was intreaged by the works of meticulous calculation, and concentration, which are mind blowing to your average viewer. After a little more searching i found this web-page, it contains no accknowlidgement for the Artist(s) or the location of the piece, but it reminded me of another topic and art form i have come to respect.

This is the same intent that urban artists seek to achieve with there work. What with “Bursting” into the viewers day, unexpected, and for most, unappreciated. However now it seems some have found a way to merge the two in harmony, the precise, clean cut perspective pieces, applied with the intent of distracting the viewer from daily practices.                                                                                    (images to look out for on this page are #’s 1, 3, 6, and 7.)

-super cool un-naritives

-curious method

-interesting display

interestingly enough, what this person is doing (for at least one piece as i can see, re-binding there Moleskine sketchbook, by attaching all there pages one after the other, also what is portrayed on the paper also has me almost bafled, as i have no idea what medium this person used, i cant tell if its marker, paint, ink, no idea, what i do know is that i like the end result.

i wish i had seen this before i started my ‘Sketchbook Project’ but thats neither here nor there

Artist: Ian Williams

-intriguing abstraction

-cool show flow

-oil paint medium

Ian Williams was my art teacher for two of my first years in High School, however during my entire high school careear i never saw much of his profesional work, of cource i saw a few sketches here and there but i never saw pieces he spent quite alot of time on. That is untill the opening of his show which i was able to attend.

tucked  inside the small cave of glass just off the road stood  a few of my fellow students a few new faces and Mr. Williams, anyone familiar with the town of Ambler knows of the “Art in the storefront Gallery” and anyone familiar with the space knows its not a large venue by any means, but that its a fun anamated space. it was inhere that i was introduced to my teachers work, most of which were oil on canvas all with there own unique feeling and style to them, but then on the opposing side of the galleries opening, there was a display of several pieces from different materials and tools that all somehow meshed together.

Artist: Barnett Newman

-intreaging abstractisom

-compelling similarity, and individuality

-intreauging theme

In class today we were given the chance to have a presentation by Deric Badmen about comica in all there shapes and forms, interestingly i spent five periods throuought the day in the room and obsorbed the same show each time, but with every repitition i gained more and more understanding of abstracat comics, so much so in fact that i wanted to express my admiration for one such part.

An artist by the name of Barnett Newman started on a series he called “the stations of the cross” an abstract sequenchial series dealing with the stations of the cross story.

A few months ago i needed to figure out something creative quickly to finish my sketchbook assignment, and I decided to experiment with ink, and masking tape, I arranged the tape in no particular order, and started to outline it with the ink, this didn’t work, but what did happen was something very simpler to that which Barnett Newman did, I got this sheared, bold effect, next to a very thin void.

Artist : Banksy

-tremendous creativity

-brilliant execution

-tremendous message

A story I don’t often tell about myself is the story behind my name, I wasnt named after a grandfather or a great uncle, rather I was named after a character in t saga named “The BelGariad” a story set a long time ago in a galaxy far-far-away where this boy Garion is uprooted from a quite pleasant childhood and is faced with the reality that he is a Sorcerer, and even more difficult to deal with is that a battle is destined to happen between him and a GOD and that its outcome will determine the fate of all lifekind. While my life has no more similarity to that han a rock has something in common with an english exam, there are some strange similarity between the Character Garion, and with myself.

The whole point of that I am trying to make here is that sence the time I have read the series I have gotten more in tune with art conversations involving the notion of “Art imitating Life” and most recently “Life imitating Art” scenarios (not to say that is that I think im going to be summoning enchantments, or wielding a sword with a magic orb attached to it, but there are still some interesting coincidences.

Now to wrap up, the piece I saw falls into the  ”Art imitating Life” and “Life imitating Art” conversation, because in a way that is what the artist possibly intended on the surface of their work, and while it is comical in its form it still has that notion…

(film : “NEXT :a primer on urban painting”)

-total mind-bending angle

-creating a sence of unity and overall nounability for graffiti

-sence of porpus and direction

-leaves you thinking of infant possibilities

In short this 1.35.44 minuet film explains the overall origins and directions of both “old school” and “new school” graffiti making, making the long journey from city to city all thorough the world, going so far even to have the artists explain their work (if they needed) or at least explain how it was that these kats started writing in the first place, over all this film leaves you with a stunned look and a mind traveling at a mile a minuet thinking of various art possibilities you as an individual can do, because that in essence is what graffiti is (and the reasonings are all explained thorough the film.

this film had various artist who made me re-shape my creative process as well as generate a few ideas of my own, one artist who I didn’t happen to katch the name of made three dimensional pieces from materials just found on the city’s streets, this made me wonder if I could like “collect” somewhere around two hundred objects that have been thrown at, but not aerodynamically sound enough to make the long journey IN to the trash cans, collected them and assembled them, into an installation of my choosing and design, could that not be the same form of art???

astounding ingenuity, and style

really cool looking

as i was surfing around looking a custom boards some people have done i stumbles accross this rather engenious find, i have no idea who came up with the idea, or if the same percon followed through with the prosess, all i know is i like it, the i iconisisom of the imagry and the unfortunate functionality create a great laugh, where is the brief discription found on the page i found it on

“The deck art is hand painted with acrylics and a clear coat. The natural maple tone is similar to a bandage color. I used the truck hole spacing as a guide and template, which made it easy.”

amazing construction (possibly even definable as sculptures)

http://www.coolhunting.com/culture/smile-on-your-b.php

“Conceived by Cool Hunting contributor and Furni co-founder Mike Giles alongside Annie Lam, the traveling exhibit—co-curated by Bob Kronbauer, the brains behind Crownfarmer skate tees—exhibited in six cities in Canada, displaying the works of 60 contemporary artist’s boards designed to inspire people to think about their first skateboard. For example, Dave Carnie decked out his bright yellow board with a mouse trap (pictured above, top right), reminding everyone of the aches and pains incurred while learning to ride and a contrast to Aaron Harowitz’s all-white board’s message “all is ok” (pictured after the jump).”

i have been doing research to find a way to display an independent project i have been working on (and almost finished!!) and I happened upon this exhibit, the few pictures provided on the ling give sight to all sixty pieces at the show, capturing all the creativity involved in skating every bored pictured is both visionary in terms of their construction, and they hold amazing meanings (like the mousetrap previously mentioned).

the entire exhibit is great, and definitely worth som looking into!

intreaging way to recycle

astounding creativity + astonishing scholptership (i think thats a word)

vering techniques

just as Robert august searched for the perfect wave it the classic movie “The Endless Summer’ i ave been searching for not only the perfect board but the perfect way to honor its life, i have been doing a series of abstract paintings on some broken decks I had lieing around the house seeing this site opened my eyes to an entire new dimension that i could bring to my series

“Skate decks eventually see its life shortened by snapping, cracking and/or wearing out. Purchasing new decks is a never-ending cycle and this was evident by the tower of old decks that were reaching to the ceiling of my room. We can’t throw away these decks because they hold sentimental meanings to us. I looked at these unusable decks every day and thought there must be something I can make with these.”

non-stencilized blockish shapes

emanates a free movement while being “restricted”

quick brush strokes

seemingly endless patterns and possibilities

after being introduced to more “intense” comic styles in class i started looking for some of the most intense work I could find, searching through old comics and graphic novels was not what I was looking for, but as I checked mr. Millers site to remind myself of the assignments due, I found the link to the Abstract comics website, and after scrolling for a few seconds I found what I had been looking for. i have wanted to express a story for some time, but i was amazed how this set of paintings told as much of a story as they did.

the paintings seem very simple, one could even say they were only experimental, but if you look closely at each one, they have not been masked off with tape or prepped in any special way, they are just series and patterns of black paint that tell an amazing story (depending on how you interpret them) after seeing them I hope I can emulate a simaler feel with my work

intreaging use of corporate creations used for overall enjoyment and re-evaluation

unused mediums and techniques

created for the nerd in all of us

on saturday morning i had hoped to catch back some well deserved sleep however I was happy forced out to se the Lands Down Art and craft show, only two years ago the show had started in someones house and has sence moved into a much larger building, however as you entered you were flooded with baked goods and beatles medleys (a friend of mine was performing on stage and was doing quite a good job) but in strolling around the show you were greeted by every possible style medium and craft possible, from glass work, to beading, to photography to mixed mediums, the whole show had a mood simaler the wissihickion art show (on the nights where all the parents and family are gone, and you can absorb ach pice for what it is)

Ben Wallice

-intreaging use of time exposer lense

negative and sepia effects providing natural elements

littoral examples of a photographer making you see the world from a new angle

Ben Wallice has been a friend for a few good years but interestingly I didn’t know he was a photographer before the past year, he has two series that i think are absolutely fascinating, the first is a series where he takes a camera to a tree and points the lense up, this series has been extended as he started using effects like, sepia, negative, and timed exposer to make them each slightly different, his other series he went to your average underground rock show and took pictures with a time delay lense, and the images of the musicians and the audience strike me differently every time i look at them.

strong metaphor and personification with seagulls

mixed mediums and techniques

great presentation and flow

custom framing

the Brandywine river museum always has something to show off, but when i went there last they had something hat really struck a chord with me, my family surrounds themselves with the work of the whole Wyeth family (however i must admit i would never have chosen the ones they picked) and i have seen all their various styles and methods from ink, to oil, and stamp, but the newest exhibit is entitled “The Seven Deadly Sins” (i must say at first i thought is was an ad for a band) created by Jamie Wyeth over the past few years the show displays the seven deadly sins with seagulls. as you walk into the room you see image after image of seagulls acting the way they always seem to do, however as you look closer you get this feeling of “okness” with the idea of the seven deadly sins, to see them vividly shown in nature, almost like the actions are natural because of these birds do without thinking

Strong abstract style similar to Rene Margrete

Also there are strong similarities to the album cover to King Crimson’s album cover

sense of emotion and censorship of the mind

I compare this painter to Rene Margrete because they have to very similar paintings which I feel communicate the same idea/feeling in Rene’s painting there is a man in a suit facing away from the viewer looking into a mirror the image that is reflected back however is the same image of the back of the man, this painter communicated a similar idea of a bald man in a suit facing away from the viewer with reading glasses on facing the wrong way on the back of his head, both of these generate the same feeling of questioning and formality as well as reality and its limits it is accepted that when you look at a mirror but there is no reason why that is the only way to perceive a mirror, as well as glasses, which are designed to help your vision cannot help your mind clear up if placed on your head.

When I saw all the paintings that were abstract close-ups of peoples faces I immediately thought of the album cover from the 1969 album “in the court of the Crimson King” which has a similar approach with visual elements such as nostrils and wrinkles, also while this is a strange connection I felt like because I grew up listening to that album I feel that it’s almost like taking a look into how this painting was prepared like each note influenced the curve of each stroke or how the melody formed the emotion of each face which comes to my final observation/conclusion /thingy

The last painting that I thought was a part of this is of a brick building background with two people walking toward each other and one looking towards the audience, and only the one looking out has a face, so its like the painter is looking out to the world that didn’t grow up the way they did or didn’t express themselves with their face like they did so they just don’t have a face
